XikeZAN Beard Kit Review

I bought the XikeZAN Beard Kit from Amazon and after using the products for a week while traveling I am impressed with the kit. The kit was about twenty dollars and you get  beard oil, balm, a comb, brush, trimming scissors and a bag to keep everything in.

Beard Oil

First thing I noticed was that there is no scent for the beard oil. This is good if you work in an area that doesn’t allow perfumes, colognes or other strong scents. The second thing I noticed was that the oil was clear. This is good if you have a lighter colored beard and are worried about the products you use discoloring your beard. Finally the oil itself is nice and thick. It goes on easily with a wet beard and coats your beard well. This oil helps keep your beard soft and it will nourish your skin.

Beard Balm

Initial Thoughts: The balm is very lightly scented. It smells extremely faintly of honey dew or other melons. Like the beard oil the balm is nearly clear, so it won’t discolor your beard.

If I have a criticism it is that this balm does not provide any hold. If you have a big beard, style your beard, or if you have a fuzzy beard you will need another wax or something that provides hold

Beard Comb

The comb is small, but I consider that a good thing because I can keep it in my desk, travel bag, or car so I always have a beard comb handy if I forget my main comb. The teeth are nicely spaced so the comb will not get stuck in your beard and pull out hair unnecessarily.

Quick Tip: You can impart your favorite scent to your comb by putting it in a ziplock bag and put your favorite tobacco, cologne, or scent in the bag with the comb and let it sit for a few weeks.

Beard Brush

Initial Thoughts: I love this brush, this is now my travel brush. Like the comb the size allows you to keep it in a bag, desk, car. The bristles are stiff enough to provide good styling but not stiff enough to hurt.

Scissors

I did not use the scissors as I am growing a Yeard (year long beard). The scissors had a nice weight to them and the action seems to be good.

Final Verdict

I would recommend this kit for men who are just starting their beards, or people looking for a gift for a bearded friend / neighbor / significant other.

Year Long Beard (Yeard) – Week 36 Review

Hello All and welcome to Greg’s Year Long Beard (Yeard) – Week 36 Review.

36 Weeks after my last shave and my beard is going strong. I still have a little gray in the beard, and a little red in the beard and that’s okay. The colors give my beard a unique style that can’t be copied.

My mustache has been an ongoing issue. It is not full enough, or long enough to handlebar the way I would like. But it is long enough to cause problems when eating. The solution? Mustache Mud or Wax. A good mustache mud or wax will help keep the stache out of the way while you eat.

I’ve been using Bossman beard products for about a week, but today I had to use my Honest Amish as my Bossman products I’m testing are packed for work trip.

Welcome new joiners, subscribers, and followers:
I wanted to say welcome to all the new people following me on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram and so on, as well as my new Youtube subscribers.

Coming Soon:
I am in the process of testing the Bossman beard products. I will finish my testing and do a review video in the next couple weeks.

I am also working on an Allen Edmonds refurbishment project. I bought a pair of AEs off of Ebay and sent them in for refinishing. Once I get them back I will show the before and after and give my recommendations for buying Allen Edmonds.

I have had a request for more cigar reviews. I will be filming a review of the 5 Vegas (Cinco Vegas) Classic Robusto. This video should be posted in a few weeks.

Mail Call! XikeZAN Beard Care & Grooming Kit

It’s time for another Mail Call. This time I’m opening the XikeZAN Beard Care & Grooming Kit.

Why I chose it

This looks like a good starter kit for those who are just starting out their bearded journey, or for people looking for a gift for the bearded ones in their life.

What comes with it

This kit comes with beard oil to hydrate your skin and beard, beard balm to help lock in the moisture in your beard, a beard comb and brush for styling, scissors for trimming fly away hairs, and a bag to keep everything together.

XikeZAN Beard Care & Grooming Kit.
XikeZAN Beard Care & Grooming Kit.

First Impressions

The packaging is really nice, the box is matt black with the XikeZAN Logo. When you slide the box open the items are presented very well, everything is neat and orderly.

The beard oil and balm are nearly clear. This is great for people with lighter colored beards that don’t want to have their beards colored by products. The oil has no scent and the balm has the slightest scent of honey dew.

The comb while small has widely spaced teeth so you don’t tug on your beard, and the brush bristles are stiff but not to stiff to hurt.

The scissors seem to be sturdy, they are well weighted in the hand.

The bag is burlap sack, it is okay for keeping your kit together but I would think you would just use your dopp kit.

Final Thoughts

A full review is coming soon. Once it is posted I will have a link below for it. But for twenty dollars this is a good starter kit or gift for a bearded guy in your life. You can use the link below to purchase the kit from Amazon.

Year Long Beard (Yeard) – Week 35 Review

Hello All and welcome to Greg’s Year Long Beard (Yeard) – Week 35 Review.

Week 35 Review
The beard is looking good after 35 weeks. That’s right it has been 35 weeks since my last shave and this 100% all natural beard is growing and flowing. It has filled out well, and the sides are a bit more manageable now that they are longer.

What will happen after my year is up? At this point I’m thinking I will trim the beard a bit to bring the sides in and shape it a bit to come to a point. I may change my mind between ow and the end of August so who knows what I’ll end up with.

Week 35

Coming Soon
I have filmed and will be posting a review of the XikeZAN Beard Kit I bought on Amazon a few weeks ago and I’ve started using some Bossman Beard products and will be making a video about them in the near future.

Chris – What do I do that requires me to travel? I am an IT Consultant my company sends me all over the US from Seattle to New York, to Atlanta, to LA and everywhere in between. We specialize in Microsoft products, and currently I’m traveling to Hartford, Connecticut.

I’m a Sasquatch – Does the Honest Amish beard and body slick help grow your beard? It helps in the way that having healthy hydrated skin helps grow your beard. It helps in the way that having good strong hair helps grow your beard. But no there is no growth ingredients in the Honest Amish beard products.

Whisky Tasting: Stranahan’s Sherry Cask Whiskey

Stranahan’s Sherry Cask Whiskey

When you think of Colorado you probably don’t think of whiskey. But Colorado is where Stranahan’s Whiskey is distilled and aged. Today I tried Stranahan’s Sherry Cask whiskey. This sherry cask whiskey is four years old and is aged in 40 year old Oloroso Sherry Casks from Spain, specifically the Andalusia region. Stranahan’s Sherry Cask is made in small batches and I bought bottle #3739 of batch #2.

Sadly Stranahan’s doesn’t have a lot of information on their website about their Sherry Cask whiskey. But I was able to find some information from TheCask.com.

From The Cask

The Nose

A surprising amount of sherry right off the bat. There’s candied almonds, fudge brownies with nuts, spiced orange, cherry pie filling, and raisins. Notes of fruitcake, lemon oil polish, and subtle malt syrup follow. Subdued oak with a bit too much of that lemon furniture polish applied, along with baking spices – vanilla bean, nutmeg, clove and candied ginger – and a faint hint of oiled leather.

The Palate

Initially quite zippy with a familiar oily mouthfeel and…lots of sherry. More candied almonds, cherry cough syrup, plump raisins, and juicy citrus. After that, maple extract, burnt sugar, a bit more dry fruit cake, along with salted mixed nuts, and melted dark chocolate. Stronger youthful oak –  grippy, rough-sawn boards.  Hot cinnamon, vanilla bean, clove, ginger, and black pepper. This gets a little hot and quite bitter towards the end.

The Finish

Slightly numbing and a little too bitter with cola, burnt sugar, tannic oak, woody cinnamon, ginger and black pepper dust.

Thoughts

Fairly decent, but also a little confusing. For a slightly older than four year old whiskey, I thought this lacked the richness of the Diamond Peak. And at the same time thought it was a little too influenced by those old Oloroso casks. The nose had an interesting complexity, with a paler, more amontillado-like feel. The palate was more Oloroso-like, though still relatively fresh and lively seeming. The wood influence grows throughout and, by the finish, gets to be a bit too astringent. As I said, the Stranahan’s profile seems a great match for sherry cask maturation, but in this case, the sherry influence felt perhaps too heavy, and overwhelmed the richer aspects of the four year old malt, amplifying some of the younger, woodier harsher aspects. While this one is not quite there, the general idea is a worthy addition to the brand and I’m certainly looking forward to future batches.

https://thecasks.com/2018/03/30/stranahans-sherry-cask-colorado-single-malt-whiskey-review/

From The Dapper Man

Aroma

Sweet, fruity, nutty, some honey

Taste

Sherry, nuts, caramel or brown sugar

Finish

Shorter than expected, woody, brown sugar, slightly spicy.

Final Verdict

I love this whiskey. Not only because Stranahan’s is from Colorado, but because it is sweet, but not to sweet, and not peaty like Laphroaig, Lagavulin, or Johnny Walker Double Black. I will keep a bottle of this on hand for when I want something sweet instead of smokey. I would highly recommend picking up a bottle before it is all gone.

Mrs. Dapper Man tried this whiskey and she really enjoyed it and she is not a whiskey fan.

Thank you for visiting The Dapper Man we hope you have a fantastic day.

Whisky Review: Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban Review

Hello all, Greg from The Dapper Man here to review  Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban 12 year old single malt whisky, aka scotch.

This sampler was part of a gift set of four Glenmorangie whiskys and I’ve been working my way through them reviewing them for you. Tonight I open The Quinta Ruban from Glenmorangie.

See what Glenmorangie has to say about their 12 year old single malt below.

From Glenmorangie

“The darkest and most intense whisky in the extra-matured range, Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban has spent 10 years maturing in American white oak casks, before being transferred into specially selected ruby port pipes from the Quintas or wine estates of Portugal.

Extra maturation in these port pipes develops Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban into a voluptuous spirit with a complex balance of sweet and dry flavours and an intriguing contrast of smooth and crisp, cooling textures. Non chill-filtered for additional aroma and mouthfeel.”

Aroma: Dark mint chocolate, tangerines and Seville oranges mingle with sandalwood and walnut before giving way to a spicy finish of pepper and nutmeg.

Taste: Mint chocolate and walnuts envelop the palate like velvet, laying the foundations for rose, Turkish delight and sweet Seville oranges.

Finish: Long lasting silky aftertaste leaving dark chocolate mints and traces of orange.

https://www.glenmorangie.com/en-us/our-whiskies/the-quinta-ruban

From The Dapper Man

Aroma: I was surprised that the smell of mint and chocolate wasn’t as intense as I thought it would be. I was expecting something more along the lines of Stillhouse Whiskey’s Mint Chocolate whiskey, but The Quinta Ruban wasn’t nearly as powerful in the aroma arena.

Taste: As you would expect you definitely taste the mint and chocolate, I did get some orange but not a lot. Mostly it was just muted mint and chocolate.

Finish: I was surprised that the finish was so short. Again when compared to the Stillhouse Whiskey, or something like Laphroaig the finish was very short. Also when swirled the whisky didn’t coat the glass like heavier spirits.

Final Verdict: Would I buy a bottle? Probably not, not because it is a bad drink but because if I want mint and chocolate I’ll stay with Stillhouse Whiskey’s Mint Chocolate and for an every day drink I prefer something with more smoke in it.

Would I turn down a glass if someone was offering, or would I accept it as a gift? Absolutely, the mint and chocolate make it refreshingly warm during a cold autumn or winter night by the fire.

Well I hope you enjoyed this whisky review, please give Glenmorangie The Quinta Ruban a few fingers, I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

Year Long Beard (Yeard) – Week 10 Review

Year Long Beard (Yeard) Week 10 Review

Weekly Beard Update

Mrs. Dapper Man’s description of the week is “grizzly”.

The beard this week has felt a bit unruly and all over the place. The sides and neck are a bit longer than the chin. I’m hoping that everything will even out soon. Can’t see a lot of red today, but it is still in there on the cheeks. Still not quite able to handlebar the “stache” but getting closer. I’ve started using a bit of a heavier styling balm to keep the beard in shape. I still prefer the lighter beard balms, but I’ll add a very small amount of styling balm just for shaping.

This week I’m smoking Dunhil Early Morning Pipe, it is one of my favorite daily blends. It is an english blend meaning it isn’t cased with anything. Early Morning Pipe is a great all day or every day tobacco and a go to in my rotation.

How to be a Gentleman: Cell Phone Etiquette

Is there any other modern day device that is so intertwined in our lives as our cell phones? These devices allow us to access the sum of all human knowledge yet we use them to take selfies, watch cat videos, and not talk to the people around us. Intentionally or not cell phones have made us inconsiderate to the people around us.

So what are some guidelines for a gentleman and his cell phone.

Turn off the sound.

No one want’s to hear what ever you have chosen for your ringtone. These beeps, buzzes, and songs interrupt conversations, meetings, movies, and dinners. We have been trained to check our phones when they beep at us.

Also, don’t use speaker phone in public. It’s disruptive to those around you. Strangers generally don’t want to hear what ever it is you are talking about. Especially if it is personal, private, or confidential.

User your phone When and Where appropriate.

This one should be easy. Don’t use your phone in the bathroom, at meals, in meetings, or in theaters. Don’t use your phone when someone is waiting on you to give an order or pay for something. Don’t use your phone in meetings. The idea is to not use your phone in settings where you disturb, disrupt, or delay people around you.

Don’t discuss personal, private, or confidential information in public

Remember when you are on your cell phone that you may be in a public spot. If that is the case be careful what you talk about. Personal or private information as well has confidential business conversations are best not done in public areas. If you have to take the call in a public area, remember to find a quiet, out of the way area to talk, and remember people may be able to hear what you are saying.

These are just three simple rules to guide you in your cell phone use. I hope they make sense. Did I miss anything, what else do you consider to be important about being a gentleman and cell phone usage? Feel free to leave a comment below, or you can follow us on Facebook, Twitter, or Pinterest as TheDapperManUS, or on YouTube as The Dapper Man.

Year Long Beard (Yeard) – Week 9 Review

Year Long Beard (Yeard) Week 9 Review

Weekly Beard Update

Mrs. Dapper Man’s word of the week is “Lumberjacky”. I guess this week I looked like a lumberjack, I think she’s just making up words at this point.

My last shave was on September 2nd. I just finished my 9th week of not shaving and I’m surprised at how my beard is shaping up. I did not expect the red to stay visible, I figured it would be drowned out by the black. Also I’ve noticed my mustache is getting long enough that I can comb it o the sides. A few more months and I’ll be able to handlebar it.

Overall I’m enjoying my Yeard and everything that goes along with growing a beard. I’ve noticed that I notice beards more now that I have one, and I find people like talking about their beards.

Contest

As this is No Shave November The Dapper Man is teaming up with No-Shave.org to raise money for cancer research, awareness, and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
